A sampling of Tuscan cuisine is a cornerstone of any successful visit to the region. Tuscany is renowned for its gastronomy. Local chefs create a variety of savory dishes that would please even the most discerning palette. The locals take great pride in their food, and use only the best ingredients. Thus, the fresh game and vegetables found throughout the countryside are inherent to true Tuscan cuisine.

The farmers who work Tuscany’s fertile rural areas supply the majority of olives, truffles, and grapes used in regional cooking. These locally farmed products, in conjunction with quality imports, provide the basis of Tuscany’s famed cuisine. The olives is perhaps one of the most versatile foods of the region. Not only are they delicious on their own, but the oil extracted from the pungent fruits is a staple in Italian fare. Truffles are found abundantly in Tuscany. The region’s vineyards produce many types of wine, such as Chianti and Carmigniano. A glass of aromatic wine compliments any Tuscan dining experience.

Tuscany’s cuisine relies on meat to a degree that the majority of other Italian cuisine does not. Probably the best-known Tuscan dish, steak Florentine, consists of a thick porterhouse cooked in locally-produced olive oil and garlic. Many other dishes utilize wild boar and hare. Not every dish requires meat, however. Many dishes are based on flat pappardelle noodles. The noodles act as an excellent base for a variety of meals. Bruschetta is a dish consisting of grilled bread topped with fresh vegetables. The dish can be eaten as an appetizer, or even for a light meal.

Whether you wish to enjoy a juicy steak, or would prefer to sip on a glass of Chianti, Tuscan cuisine is an integral part of your vacation experience. Pamper your palette with mouthwatering indulgences found only in the heart of Tuscany.
